Introduction
Catgos, containing the active ingredients Calcium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, and Sodium Chloride, are a prescription medication used to treat dry eyes and to maintain the health of the ocular surface.
Uses
Catgos are prescribed for:
- Alleviating dryness and discomfort in the eyes caused by insufficient tear production or rapid evaporation of tears.
- Supporting the natural balance of electrolytes on the ocular surface, aiding in maintaining a healthy tear film.
Dosage and Administration
- Dosage: The usual dosage is one to two drops in the affected eye(s) as directed by your healthcare provider.
- Administration: Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops into the eye. Close your eyes gently for a few moments to allow the drops to spread evenly over the eye’s surface.
Mechanism of Action
Catgos work by supplementing the natural tear film and helping to stabilize the tear film lipid layer. The combination of Calcium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, and Sodium Chloride helps in maintaining the osmotic balance of the tears, thereby promoting ocular surface health and relieving dryness.
Side Effects
Common side effects:
- Temporary mild stinging or burning in the eyes upon application.
Serious side effects:
- Allergic reactions such as severe eye redness, swelling, or itching.
What to do: If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider immediately.
Drug Interactions
Catgos may interact with other ophthalmic medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications, including over-the-counter eye drops, that you are using to avoid potential interactions.
Precautions
- Contraindications: Avoid using Catgos if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
- Interactions: Inform your healthcare provider about any other eye medications or health conditions before using Catgos to prevent potential interactions.
Storage
Store Catgos at room temperature, away from direct heat and light. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Patient Tips
- Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface to prevent contamination.
- If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
- If you experience ongoing eye discomfort or changes in vision, seek medical advice promptly.
