Introduction

Cebran D is a prescription medication that combines two active ingredients: Ciprofloxacin and Dexamethasone. It is available under the brand name Cebran D. This eye drop is primarily used to treat eye infections and reduce inflammation in the eyes.

Uses

Cebran D is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial eye infections, including conjunctivitis (pink eye), corneal ulcers, and other ocular infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It also helps to reduce inflammation in the eyes, which can occur as a result of these infections.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage and administration of Cebran D should be determined by your healthcare provider. Generally, the recommended dosage is one to two drops in the affected eye(s) every four to six hours. Follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider and not exceed the prescribed dosage.

To administer the eye drop:

Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the medication.

Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.

Hold the dropper close to your eye without touching it.

Squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pocket formed by the lower eyelid.

Close your eyes gently and keep them closed for a minute or two to allow the medication to spread evenly.

Mechanism of Action

Ciprofloxacin, one of the active ingredients in Cebran D, belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria that cause infections in the eyes. Dexamethasone, on the other hand, is a corticosteroid that helps to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune response in the eyes.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include temporary burning or stinging sensation, blurred vision, and redness of the eyes. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own.

Serious side effects are rare but may include eye pain, severe eye irritation, swelling, or discharge. If you experience any of these serious side effects or if your symptoms worsen or persist, seek medical attention immediately.

Drug Interactions

Cebran D may interact with other medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal products. Some medications may interact with Cebran D and affect its effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider can provide guidance on potential drug interactions.

Precautions

Before using Cebran D, inform your healthcare provider about any allergies you may have, especially to ciprofloxacin, dexamethasone, or other medications. Also, inform your healthcare provider about any other eye conditions you may have, such as glaucoma or cataracts.

Use Cebran D only as prescribed and to avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface, including the eye, to prevent contamination. Do not wear contact lenses while using this medication, unless directed by your healthcare provider.

Storage

Store Cebran D in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Keep it away from direct sunlight and do not expose it to excessive heat. Make sure to keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

Patient Tips

  • Follow the dosage and administration instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
  • Wash your hands before and after using the eye drops to prevent the spread of infection.
  • If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applying each medication.
  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using Cebran D and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
  • If you experience any discomfort or have concerns while using Cebran D, contact your healthcare provider for further guidance.
