Introduction

Floace Ophthalmic is a prescription medication that contains the active ingredient Fluorometholone. It is available in the form of eye drops and is primarily used in the treatment of eye inflammation.

Uses

Floace Ophthalmic is commonly prescribed to reduce inflammation and relieve symptoms associated with various eye conditions, including allergic conjunctivitis, uveitis, and post-operative inflammation. It helps to alleviate redness, itching, and swelling in the eyes.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage and administration of Floace Ophthalmic should be determined by your healthcare professional. It is typically recommended to instill one to two drops into the affected eye(s) two to four times a day. Follow the instructions provided by your doctor and not exceed the prescribed dosage.

To administer the eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly and tilt your head back slightly while looking up. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket and squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pocket. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination. Close your eyes gently for a few moments to allow the medication to spread evenly over the eye.

Mechanism of Action

Fluorometholone, the active ingredient in Floace Ophthalmic, belongs to a class of medications called corticosteroids. It works by reducing inflammation in the eyes. When applied topically, it inhibits the production of certain substances in the body that cause inflammation, thereby providing relief from symptoms.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Floace Ophthalmic may include temporary stinging or burning sensation upon instillation, blurred vision, and increased sensitivity to light. These side effects are usually mild and temporary.

Serious side effects are rare but can occur. If you experience any severe eye pain, vision changes, eye discharge, or signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, or swelling, seek immediate medical attention.

Drug Interactions

inform your healthcare professional about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, as well as any herbal supplements or vitamins. Certain medications, such as other corticosteroids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), may interact with Floace Ophthalmic. These interactions can affect the effectiveness of the medication or increase the risk of side effects. Your doctor will guide you on the appropriate use of Floace Ophthalmic in combination with other medications.

Precautions

Before using Floace Ophthalmic, inform your doctor if you have any allergies, especially to corticosteroids or any other ingredients in the medication. Disclose any medical conditions you have, including glaucoma, cataracts, or any eye infections.

Avoid using Floace Ophthalmic if you have a viral or fungal eye infection, as it may worsen the condition. Additionally, prolonged use of corticosteroids in the eyes may increase the risk of developing increased pressure in the eyes, cataracts, or infections.

Storage

Floace Ophthalmic should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Avoid freezing the medication and discard any unused portion after the prescribed duration of use.

Patient Tips

  • Follow the prescribed dosage and administration instructions provided by your doctor.
  • Wash your hands before and after using the eye drops to prevent contamination.
  • Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including your eye, to avoid contamination.
  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using Floace Ophthalmic and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
  • If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 10 minutes between applying each medication, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
  • If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after a few days of using Floace Ophthalmic, contact your doctor for further evaluation.
