Introduction

ilastin-FT is a prescription medication that combines two active ingredients, Fluticasone Furoate and Azelastine. It is used to treat symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, such as nasal congestion, sneezing, itching, and runny nose.

Uses

ilastin-FT is primarily prescribed to manage symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children 6 years of age and older. It helps reduce inflammation in the nasal passages and relieves symptoms caused by allergies to pollen, mold, dust mites, and pet dander.

Dosage and Administration

The recommended dosage of ilastin-FT for adults and children 12 years of age and older is 2 sprays in each nostril once daily. For children between the ages of 6 and 11 years, the recommended dosage is 1 spray in each nostril once daily. Follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional.

To use the spray:

  • Shake the bottle gently before each use.
  • Remove the cap.
  • Tilt your head slightly forward.
  • Insert the nozzle into one nostril, aiming slightly away from the center of your nose.
  • While breathing in through your nose, press down firmly on the pump to release the spray.
  • Repeat these steps for the other nostril.
  • Replace the cap after use.

Mechanism of Action

Fluticasone Furoate, one of the active ingredients in ilastin-FT, is a synthetic corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation in the nasal passages. It helps to decrease the production of certain substances in the body that cause allergic reactions, thereby relieving nasal congestion, sneezing, itching, and runny nose.

Azelastine, the other active ingredient, is an antihistamine that works by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance released during an allergic reaction. By blocking histamine, Azelastine helps to reduce symptoms such as nasal itching, sneezing, and runny nose.

Side Effects

Common side effects of ilastin-FT may include nasal irritation, nosebleeds, headache, and unpleasant taste or smell. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, contact your healthcare professional.

Serious side effects are rare but may include severe allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. If you experience any of these serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention.

Drug Interactions

inform your healthcare professional about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as any herbal supplements. Drug interactions can occur, and your healthcare professional can provide guidance on potential interactions with ilastin-FT.

Precautions

Before using ilastin-FT, inform your healthcare professional if you have any allergies, especially to Fluticasone Furoate, Azelastine, or any other corticosteroids or antihistamines. Additionally, let your healthcare professional know about any medical conditions you have, including nasal or sinus infections.

ilastin-FT is not recommended for children under 6 years of age. Follow the dosage instructions provided and not exceed the recommended dose.

Storage

Store ilastin-FT at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze the medication.

Patient Tips

  • Use ilastin-FT regularly and consistently for optimal results. It may take a few days of regular use to experience the full benefits.
  • Avoid spraying the medication directly onto the nasal septum (the wall between the nostrils) to minimize the risk of nosebleeds.
  • If you forget to use a dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about using ilastin-FT, consult your healthcare professional for further guidance.
