Introduction
Nefka is a prescription medication that contains the active ingredient Nepafenac. It is available under the brand name Nefka.
Uses
Nefka is primarily used to treat pain and inflammation in the eyes following cataract surgery. It belongs to a class of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which work by reducing the production of certain substances in the body that cause pain and swelling.
Dosage and Administration
The dosage and administration of Nefka should be determined by your healthcare professional. Typically, the recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye(s), three times daily, beginning 1 day prior to cataract surgery and continuing for 2 weeks after the surgery. Follow your healthcare professional’s instructions regarding the correct dosage and duration of treatment.
To administer the eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly and tilt your head back slightly. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper directly above the eye and squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pocket. Blink a few times to distribute the medication evenly. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface to prevent contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Nepafenac, the active ingredient in Nefka, works by inhibiting the production of certain enzymes that play a role in the inflammatory process. By reducing inflammation, it helps relieve pain and swelling in the eyes after cataract surgery.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include temporary stinging or burning sensation in the eyes, blurred vision, and eye irritation. These side effects are usually mild and transient.
However, if you experience any serious side effects such as severe eye pain, increased sensitivity to light, eye discharge, or changes in vision, seek immediate medical attention.
Drug Interactions
inform your healthcare professional about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal supplements.
Nefka may interact with other medications, including other eye drops. Use caution when using multiple eye drops at the same time and to follow your healthcare professional’s instructions regarding the timing and administration of different eye medications.
Precautions
Before using Nefka, inform your healthcare professional if you have any allergies, especially to NSAIDs or any other medications. Also, let them know if you have a history of eye problems, such as glaucoma or dry eye syndrome.
Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface, including the eye, to prevent contamination. Do not use the eye drops if they appear cloudy or discolored.
Storage
Nefka should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze the medication.
