Introduction

Ofciron PD is a prescription medication that contains two active ingredients: Ofloxacin and Prednisolone. It is commonly used to treat eye infections and reduce inflammation in the eyes.

Uses

Ofciron PD is primarily prescribed for the treatment of bacterial eye infections, such as conjunctivitis and keratitis. It is also effective in reducing inflammation associated with certain eye conditions, including uveitis and iritis.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage of Ofciron PD may vary depending on the severity of the infection or inflammation, as well as the patient’s age and overall health. Follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional.

Generally, the recommended dosage for adults and children is one to two drops in the affected eye(s) every four to six hours. Wash your hands before administering the eye drops. Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pocket without touching the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface. Close your eyes gently for a few moments to allow the medication to spread evenly. If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes before applying them.

Mechanism of Action

Ofloxacin, one of the active ingredients in Ofciron PD, belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, thereby treating the bacterial infection in the eyes.

Prednisolone, the other active ingredient, is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation. It works by suppressing the immune response that causes inflammation in the eyes, providing relief from symptoms such as redness, swelling, and itching.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include temporary burning or stinging sensation in the eyes, blurred vision, and increased sensitivity to light. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own.

However, if you experience any serious side effects such as severe eye pain, vision changes, or signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, itching, swelling), seek immediate medical attention.

Drug Interactions

Before using Ofciron PD, inform your healthcare professional about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements. Certain medications may interact with Ofciron PD and affect its effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects. Discuss potential drug interactions with your healthcare professional.

Precautions

There are certain precautions to consider when using Ofciron PD. Inform your healthcare professional if you have any known allergies to Ofloxacin, Prednisolone, or any other medications. Additionally, let your healthcare professional know if you have any medical conditions, especially glaucoma or a history of herpes simplex infection in the eye.

Ofciron PD should not be used if you are wearing contact lenses. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the medication and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.

Storage

Ofciron PD should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze the medication. Keep all medications out of the reach of children.
