Bilastine

Bilastine is an oral antihistamine medication that belongs to the second-generation H1 receptor blockers class. It is used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic conditions, such as hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis), chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives), and other allergic skin reactions.
Bilastine works by selectively blocking the histamine H1 receptors, thereby preventing the release of inflammatory mediators and reducing the allergic response. Unlike first-generation antihistamines, bilastine has minimal sedative effects, allowing for improved daytime function and cognitive performance in patients.
The medication is available in various forms, including tablets and oral solution, making it suitable for individuals of different age groups and with varying levels of mobility. Bilastine is typically prescribed for adults and children over the age of two, with dosing adjusted according to the patient’s age and severity of symptoms.
Bilastine is a safe and well-tolerated medication, with side effects usually mild and transient in nature. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Serious adverse events are rare, and the medication can be used with confidence in most cases.
