Epinastine
Epinastine is a prescription eye drop medication used to treat itchy eyes caused by allergies. It belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines, which work by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance released by the body during an allergic reaction.
Epinastine is particularly effective in providing relief from itchy eyes caused by seasonal allergies, such as hay fever, and other allergic conjunctivitis. It is a once-daily treatment, providing continuous relief throughout the day.
The active ingredient in Epinastine, epinastine hydrochloride, works by inhibiting the action of histamine on certain cells in the eye, known as mast cells. This reduces inflammation and swelling, leading to a decrease in itching and discomfort.
Epinastine is available in a 0.05% solution and is typically instilled into the affected eye(s) once daily. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and administration instructions provided by your healthcare professional.
As with any medication, inform your doctor of any pre-existing medical conditions, allergies, or current medications before using Epinastine. Common side effects of this medication include eye irritation, blurred vision, and a foreign body sensation in the eye. However, these side effects are generally mild and typically resolve on their own.
