Fulvestrant
Fulvestrant is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs called estrogen receptor antagonists. It is primarily used in the treatment of hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The drug works by blocking the action of estrogen on estrogen receptors, which are found in breast cancer cells. By inhibiting estrogen’s ability to stimulate these receptors, fulvestrant helps to slow the growth and spread of breast cancer cells. Fulvestrant is typically administered as an injection, usually once every 28 days. The medication is designed for use in women whose cancer has progressed or recurred despite previous treatment with other hormone therapies, such as tamoxifen.
