Altretamine

Altretamine (hexamethylmelamine) is a chemotherapy medication commonly known as hexamethylmelamine. It is an alkylating agent, specifically a nitrosourea compound, which works by forming crosslinks between DNA strands in fast-growing cancer cells. As a result, it hinders cancer cells’ ability to replicate and expand.
Altretamine is used primarily in the treatment of certain types of ovarian cancer, in conjunction with other chemotherapies, to relieve symptoms and improve overall quality of life for patients experiencing recurrent or persistent symptoms. Additionally, it may be prescribed to other cancer patients, depending on specific diagnoses and medical circumstances, after determining that its benefits outweigh any potential risks or side effects.
