Streptokinase

Streptokinase is a naturally occurring enzyme derived from Streptococcus bacteria. It is a fibrinolytic agent, meaning it helps break down fibrin, a protein that forms clots in the blood. Streptokinase is commonly used to dissolve blood clots in patients suffering from life-threatening conditions such as pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack).
In patients with acute myocardial infarction, Streptokinase is administered as quickly as possible to improve blood flow in the coronary arteries, prevent further damage to the heart muscle, and increase the chances of survival. Monitor patients closely while receiving Streptokinase, as it can cause unwanted side effects like excessive bleeding or allergic reactions.
