Bempedoic acid, Rosuvastatin
Bempedoic Acid and Rosuvastatin is a combination medication used to lower high cholesterol levels in the blood. It works by inhibiting the production of cholesterol in the liver and increasing the removal of LDL (low-density lipoprotein), often referred to as “bad” cholesterol, from the bloodstream.
Bempedoic acid is a first-in-class inhibitor of ATP citrate lyase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis. Rosuvastatin is a potent inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, another enzyme crucial for cholesterol production. By targeting these enzymes simultaneously, Bempedoic Acid and Rosuvastatin provides a more comprehensive approach to cholesterol management.
This medication is prescribed for adults with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (an inherited condition that causes high cholesterol levels) or for those with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease who require additional cholesterol-lowering therapy. Bempedoic Acid and Rosuvastatin should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight management to achieve the best results.
The combination of Bempedoic Acid and Rosuvastatin has been shown to effectively reduce LDL cholesterol levels, with a lower risk of side effects compared to other statin-based therapies. However, like all medications, it may cause some side effects, such as muscle pain, headache, or stomach discomfort. Patients should report any persistent or severe side effects to their healthcare provider.
