Indapamide

Indapamide is a diuretic medication that belongs to the class of thiazide-like diuretics. It is primarily used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) by promoting the excretion of excess fluid and salt from the body. This helps in reducing the volume of blood pumped by the heart and lowering blood pressure.
Indapamide is available in tablet form and is typically prescribed as a single agent or in combination with other antihypertensive medications. The recommended starting dose for most patients is 1.25 mg daily, which can be increased to 2.5 mg if needed. The medication should be taken once a day, preferably in the morning, with or without food.
In addition to its use in hypertension, Indapamide has been shown to be effective in reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes in patients with existing cardiovascular disease. It may also be used in the management of heart failure, edema (fluid retention), and kidney disease.
Indapamide is generally well-tolerated, but potential side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and an increased need to urinate. In rare cases, more severe side effects such as allergic reactions, electrolyte imbalances, and kidney problems may occur. Patients should inform their healthcare provider if they experience any adverse effects while taking Indapamide.
