Quinapril, Hydrochlorothiazide

Quinapril Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination medication primarily used to treat high blood pressure in patients. It consists of two drugs, Quinapril and Hydrochlorothiazide, which work together to decrease blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, and reducing the amount of fluid in your body.
Quinapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of ACE, which results in narrowing and stiffening of the blood vessels. By inhibiting ACE, Quinapril allows blood vessels to dilate and lowers overall blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide, on the other hand, is a diuretic drug, also known as a “water pill.” It helps your body get rid of extra fluid by increasing urination. This reduction in fluid in your body also contributes to lowered blood pressure.
This combination medication may also be prescribed for patients at high risk of developing heart complications, such as those with underlying kidney or heart disease. Although this medication is primarily used in combination with a healthy lifestyle, including proper diet and exercise, to manage high blood pressure, it should be taken under medical supervision.
As with all medical substances, carefully follow your healthcare provider’s instructions. Always inform your doctor of all your medications, allergies, and health conditions before starting any new drug treatment.
