Telmisartan, Amlodipine
Telmisartan and Amlodipine is a combination medication that helps lower blood pressure and relax the blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow. Telmisartan belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which work by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that works by relaxing the muscles in blood vessel walls, allowing the blood to flow more freely.
This combination medication is typically prescribed for people with high blood pressure (hypertension) who have not responded well to other treatments or who need more than one medication to achieve the desired blood pressure level. By effectively lowering blood pressure, this drug can reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems associated with hypertension.
As with any medication, follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully, including the proper dosage and administration. Be sure to inform your doctor about any other medications, supplements, or medical conditions you may have to avoid potential interactions or complications.
Telmisartan and Amlodipine can cause side effects, such as dizziness, swelling, or ankle/foot/leg swelling. Inform your healthcare provider if these or any other side effects become bothersome or do not improve over time. Monitor your blood pressure regularly, as recommended by your doctor, to ensure the medication is working effectively.
