Melasma
Melasma is a common skin condition characterized by the appearance of dark, irregular patches on the facial skin, particularly on the cheeks, nose, forehead, and upper lip. It is often triggered by hormonal changes, such as during pregnancy or due to the use of hormonal contraceptives. Melasma treatment aims to reduce the appearance of these facial pigmentation spots and prevent recurrence.
Typical Treatments: Melasma treatment involves a combination of topical skin lightening agents, such as hydroquinone, azelaic acid, and kojic acid, that help to inhibit melanin production and promote skin renewal. Additionally, prescription retinoids and chemical peels may be used to exfoliate and brighten the skin. In-office procedures, such as laser treatments and intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, can also be helpful in reducing the appearance of melasma and promoting an even skin tone.
Please consult with a healthcare professional before starting any treatment for melasma to ensure the appropriate course of action based on your individual needs.
