Chronic kidney disease

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a long-term condition in which the kidneys gradually lose their ability to filter waste and excess fluids from the blood. This may be due to various factors, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and other chronic health conditions. As kidney function declines, waste products build up in the body, leading to potential complications such as anemia, bone disease, and heart problems.
Typical Medications:
Medications for CKD often involve managing underlying conditions that contribute to kidney damage, such as blood pressure control and blood sugar regulation. In some cases, medications like angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) may be prescribed to help slow down kidney function decline. In cases of anemia, medications like erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs) may be used to increase red blood cell production. Additionally, phosphate binders and vitamin D analogs may be prescribed to help manage phosphorus and calcium levels in the blood.
Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new medication or making changes to existing treatments.
