Finerenone

Finerenone is a selective non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRAn) used for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). It works by blocking the action of a hormone called aldosterone, which helps to regulate sodium and water balance in the body. By inhibiting the aldosterone receptor, finerenone reduces the effects of aldosterone on the kidneys, leading to a decrease in proteinuria (the presence of protein in the urine) and slowing the progression of kidney damage.
Finerenone is indicated for adults with CKD who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease or who already have existing cardiovascular complications. It is typically prescribed alongside other medications to manage the underlying cause of CKD, such as hypertension or diabetes. Finerenone has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, including heart attacks and strokes, in patients with CKD and diabetes.
