Becaplermin

Becaplermin, also known as Regranex, is a recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor-BB (rhPDGF-BB) used for wound healing. This medication is a combination of two proteins, platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and heparin, which are found naturally in the body. Becaplermin is typically applied topically as a gel or cream to stimulate the growth of new blood vessels and cells, promoting tissue repair and wound closure.
Becaplermin is commonly used in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, and other slow-healing wounds that are resistant to standard therapies. By accelerating the wound healing process, the medication helps reduce the risk of infection and complications, such as amputation. Becaplermin is not intended for use on deep tissue injuries or for treating wounds that are still acutely inflamed.
The medication is applied to the wound twice daily, and the wound dressing is changed regularly to ensure optimal contact with the treatment area.
