Iron Sucrose
Iron Sucrose is a type of iron supplement that is administered through an intramuscular injection. It is a form of elemental iron, specifically iron III sucrose complex, designed to treat iron deficiency anemia in individuals who cannot absorb sufficient amounts of iron through oral administration.
Iron is an essential mineral that plays a vital role in producing red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body. Iron deficiency anemia occurs when the body lacks enough healthy red blood cells to deliver adequate oxygen to tissues and organs. Common symptoms of this condition include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, and dizziness.
Iron Sucrose injections help replenish iron stores, allowing the body to produce more red blood cells and alleviate anemia symptoms. This medication is particularly suitable for individuals who have difficulty absorbing iron from their diet or oral iron supplements due to conditions like gastrointestinal disorders or gastric bypass surgery.
Each injection of Iron Sucrose typically contains 100 mg of iron and is administered every week or every other week, depending on the severity of the iron deficiency and the individual’s response to treatment. The injections are given by a healthcare professional in a clinic or doctor’s office setting.
