Empagliflozin

Empagliflozin is an oral medication belonging to the class of drugs known as sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors. It is primarily used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, a chronic condition characterized by high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) due to the body’s inability to utilize insulin effectively.
Empagliflozin works by inhibiting the SGLT2 transporter in the kidneys, which is responsible for reabsorbing glucose back into the bloodstream. By blocking this process, excess glucose is excreted through urine, thereby reducing blood sugar levels.
