Nateglinide

Nateglinide is an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the class of meglitinide analogues. It is primarily used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. The primary function of Nateglinide is to lower blood sugar levels by stimulating the secretion of insulin from the pancreas.
In patients with type 2 diabetes, the body’s cells become resistant to insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. As a result, blood sugar levels rise, which can lead to complications if not controlled. Nateglinide works by mimicking the action of a natural hormone called incretin, which is released in response to eating. This hormone prompts the pancreas to release insulin, helping to lower blood sugar levels after a meal.
Nateglinide is typically taken just before meals, as it works rapidly to lower blood sugar levels and is short-acting, ensuring that blood sugar levels are controlled during that specific mealtime.
