Netarsudil

Netarsudil is a topical ophthalmic medication used to treat glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is a combination of two active ingredients: netarsudil, a Rho kinase inhibitor, and latanoprost, a prostaglandin analogue. This unique combination helps to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
Netarsudil works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, the fluid that fills and nourishes the front of the eye, through the trabecular meshwork, the drainage system of the eye. Latanoprost, on the other hand, helps to decrease the production of aqueous humor by reducing the formation of aqueous humor by the ciliary body, the part of the eye responsible for producing this fluid.
The medication is available as a solution in a single-dose sterile container, specifically designed for easy and safe application to the eye. It is typically applied once daily, in the evening, to the affected eye(s) by gently tilting the head back, holding the container between the fingers, and dropping the solution onto the conjunctival sac, the space between the lower eyelid and the white part of the eye.
Netarsudil is generally well-tolerated, but some patients may experience mild side effects such as conjunctival hyperemia (redness in the eye), instillation site pain, corneal verticillata (spoke-like opacities on the cornea), and eye pruritus (itching). These side effects are usually transient and resolve on their own.
