Filgrastim

Filgrastim, a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rHuG-CSF), is a biologic medication used to stimulate the production of neutrophils in the bone marrow. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that plays a vital role in the body’s immune response to infection. Filgrastim is primarily prescribed for patients undergoing chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant, or those with an inherent low neutrophil count. It is administered as a subcutaneous injection or intravenous infusion to shorten the duration of neutropenia, a condition characterized by abnormally low levels of neutrophils, and to reduce the risk of infection.
