Famotidine

Famotidine is a histamine-2 (H2) receptor antagonist, which belongs to a class of medications known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It is primarily used for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, such as acid reflux, heartburn, and peptic ulcers.
Famotidine works by reducing the production of stomach acid, which helps alleviate symptoms associated with acid reflux and ulcers. By inhibiting the H2 receptors in the stomach lining, famotidine decreases the release of gastric acid, thus promoting healing and preventing further damage to the gastrointestinal tract.

Famotidine is also commonly used as a pre-treatment before endoscopic procedures, such as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), to reduce the risk of complications and improve patient comfort.
