Framycetin
Framycetin is an antibiotic medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as aminoglycosides. It is derived from the natural antibiotic, neomycin, and is commonly used to treat bacterial infections. Framycetin is particularly effective against Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which are known to cause urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and skin infections.
The medication works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria by interfering with their protein synthesis process. This prevents the bacteria from multiplying and eventually leads to their destruction. Framycetin is available in various forms, including intravenous injections and oral tablets, allowing for flexible administration based on the severity of the infection and the patient’s condition.
Framycetin should be used with caution in patients with kidney or hearing problems, as it may cause further complications. Regular monitoring of kidney function and hearing is recommended during treatment. Additionally, the medication should not be used in patients with known allergies to aminoglycosides or in those with certain types of infections, such as tuberculosis or mycobacterial infections.
