Sulphacetamide, Neomycin, Bacitracin
Sulphacetamide, Neomycin, and Bacitracin Ophthalmic Ointment is a combination medication used for treating bacterial eye infections, including conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal ulcers.
The ointment contains three active ingredients: Sulphacetamide, which is a sulfonamide antibiotic; Neomycin, a potent antibacterial agent; and Bacitracin, an antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial growth. When used together, these ingredients provide effective treatment for a wide range of bacterial eye infections.
The ointment is applied directly to the affected eye, typically every two to four hours, depending on the severity of the infection. It should be used for the full course of treatment as prescribed by a healthcare professional, even if symptoms improve before the treatment is complete. This ensures that all bacteria are eliminated, reducing the risk of a recurrent infection or the development of antibiotic resistance.
While the ointment is generally well-tolerated, some users may experience mild side effects such as irritation, itching, or burning sensations in the eye. These side effects are usually temporary and resolve as the body adjusts to the medication. However, if any side effects persist or worsen, or if new symptoms develop, consult a healthcare professional.
