Fluconazole
Fluconazole is an antifungal medication used to treat infections caused by fungi. It works by inhibiting the growth of fungi, allowing the body’s immune system to fight the infection more effectively. Fluconazole is available in tablet and oral suspension forms, and is typically prescribed for oral use.
The most common use of fluconazole is to treat vaginal yeast infections caused by Candida species. It is also used to treat other fungal infections, such as those affecting the mouth, throat, esophagus, lungs, skin, and nails. In some cases, fluconazole may be prescribed for systemic fungal infections, such as those affecting the blood, heart, brain, or other organs.
Fluconazole is generally well-tolerated, but some side effects may occur. These can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and skin rash. In rare cases, more severe side effects may occur, such as liver damage or allergic reactions. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment to minimize the risk of side effects.
Before taking fluconazole, it is important to inform your healthcare provider of any pre-existing medical conditions, allergies, or medications you are currently taking. This will help ensure that fluconazole is the appropriate treatment for your specific condition and that any potential interactions or side effects are minimized.
