Ivermectin
Ivermectin is an antiparasitic medication primarily used to treat infections caused by parasitic worms, such as roundworms, threadworms, and hookworms. It is also effective against certain types of mites, including those responsible for scabies and rosacea. The drug works by disrupting the parasite’s nerve function, ultimately causing their death.
Ivermectin is available in oral and topical forms, depending on the specific parasite being treated. When taken orally, it is typically administered as a single dose, which may be repeated after a week if necessary. In cases of scabies, a topical application of ivermectin cream is applied to the affected skin, allowing it to be absorbed directly into the parasites.
Ivermectin is not effective against bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. Its use should be limited to the treatment of parasitic infections, as prescribed by a healthcare professional. Additionally, the medication should only be taken under the supervision of a doctor, as excessive use or misuse may lead to adverse side effects.
