Cetrimide, Permethrin
Cetrimide and Permethrin Cream is a topical medication used to treat various skin conditions caused by parasites, bacteria, and fungi. Cetrimide is a surfactant that helps to remove dirt and oils from the skin, while Permethrin is an insecticide that effectively kills parasites such as lice and mites.
This combination cream is particularly useful for treating infestations of head lice, also known as pediculosis capitis. Head lice are small, wingless insects that live in human hair and feed on blood from the scalp. They can cause intense itching and discomfort, and their presence can be both embarrassing and distressing.
Cetrimide and Permethrin Cream works by disrupting the nervous system of the lice, causing paralysis and ultimately leading to their death. The cream is applied to the affected areas of the scalp and hair, where it is absorbed by the lice. After a specific period, usually around 10 minutes, the cream is rinsed off, leaving behind dead lice and eggs.
In addition to treating head lice, Cetrimide and Permethrin Cream can also be used to treat other parasitic infections such as scabies. Scabies is a skin condition caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite, which burrows into the skin and causes intense itching, rash, and sores. The cream is applied to the affected areas of the skin, where it kills the mites and their eggs, providing relief from the symptoms of scabies.
Cetrimide and Permethrin Cream is generally well-tolerated, but some individuals may experience mild skin irritation or a burning sensation after application. If this occurs, the cream should be rinsed off immediately and a soothing lotion or cream can be applied to the affected areas.
