Endoxifen

Endoxifen is a potent metabolite of the selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), Tamoxifen. It is primarily used as a targeted therapy for breast cancer treatment. This medication works by blocking the estrogen receptors in cancerous cells, thereby inhibiting the growth and spread of breast cancer.
Endoxifen is prescribed as an adjuvant therapy, often following surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy for breast cancer patients with hormone-sensitive tumors. It is particularly useful for patients with a high risk of cancer recurrence.
While Tamoxifen is the initial drug administered, the body metabolizes it into Endoxifen, which is the active and potent form responsible for its anti-cancer effects. Tamoxifen and Endoxifen have different side effect profiles. Endoxifen is more effective in reducing the risk of breast cancer recurrence, but it may also cause increased hot flashes and joint pain.
