Milnacipran
Milnacipran is a selective norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (SNDRI) used to treat major depressive disorder in adults. It works by increasing the levels of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain, which helps improve mood and alleviate symptoms of depression.
Milnacipran is available in capsule form and is typically taken twice daily, with or without food. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and schedule to ensure the best results. The medication may take several weeks to start working, and continue taking it even if symptoms improve.
As with any antidepressant, there may be some side effects, including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and increased blood pressure. Patients should discuss any side effects with their healthcare provider, who may adjust the dosage or recommend alternative treatments if necessary.
Milnacipran is not recommended for individuals with a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or seizures. Inform the healthcare provider of any pre-existing medical conditions or medications being taken before starting treatment with milnacipran.
