Thiocolchicoside

Thiocolchicoside is a synthetic derivative of colchicine, an alkaloid compound found in the plant Colchicum autumnale, also known as the autumn crocus. Thiocolchicoside is used for the relief of symptoms associated with acute gout attacks and other conditions characterized by painful inflammation, such as pseudogout and family Mediterranean fever.
This medication works by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators, particularly interleukin-1 beta, which are responsible for the inflammatory response. Thiocolchicoside acts primarily on the small peripheral sensory nerve endings, blocking the transmission of pain signals. It is available in oral and intravenous formulations.
