Epalrestat, Pregabalin

Epalrestat is an oral medication primarily used for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy, a kidney disorder commonly associated with diabetes. It works by inhibiting the enzyme aldose reductase, which helps reduce the accumulation of sorbitol in the kidneys, thereby preventing cell damage and preserving kidney function. Epalrestat is not indicated for the treatment of other types of kidney diseases or for non-diabetic patients.
Pregabalin is an oral medication primarily used for the management of neuropathic pain, which is pain resulting from damage to the nervous system. It is also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder and seizures in patients with epilepsy. Pregabalin works by binding to the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system, thereby reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters and inhibiting nerve impulse transmission. This helps to alleviate pain and anxiety symptoms. Pregabalin should not be used to treat acute pain or in patients with a history of substance abuse.
