Piroxicam
Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that belongs to the group of medications known as pyrrolo-2,3-diazaboxadiazole derivatives. It is primarily used to alleviate pain and reduce inflammation in patients suffering from various musculoskeletal conditions, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Piroxicam works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is responsible for the production of prostaglandins, substances that contribute to inflammation, pain, and fever. By suppressing the production of prostaglandins, piroxicam helps to decrease inflammation and alleviate pain in the affected joints and tissues. Piroxicam is available in both oral and injectable forms, with the injectable form often used for more severe cases or when other treatments have proven ineffective. As with all medications, patients should consult with their healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate treatment plan and to discuss any potential side effects or contraindications.
