Bronchitis

Bronchitis is a common respiratory condition characterized by inflammation and irritation of the bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from the lungs. This inflammation can result in symptoms such as cough, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, and increased mucus production. There are two main types of bronchitis: acute and chronic. Acute bronchitis is typically caused by a viral infection, often following an upper respiratory tract infection, and usually resolves on its own within a few weeks. Chronic bronchitis, on the other hand, is a more severe form of the condition that is often due to long-term exposure to irritants like cigarette smoke or air pollution.
Medications commonly used to treat bronchitis include bronchodilators, which help to relax and open the airways, and expectorants, which help to thin and expel mucus. Antibiotics may be prescribed for bacterial infections, but are generally not effective against viral infections. Over-the-counter cough suppressants and analgesics can also be used to alleviate symptoms and provide relief. It’s important to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the most appropriate treatment for each individual’s needs and to ensure proper administration of medications.
