Acetylcysteine
Acetylcysteine is a medication commonly used to treat and prevent acetaminophen (paracetamol) overdose. It is also used in the management of respiratory conditions such as bronchitis and emphysema, where it functions as a mucolytic, helping to thin and loosen mucus, making it easier to cough up. Additionally, it may be used as an antidote in cases of poisoning, specifically for certain types of toxic agents. Acetylcysteine is available in various forms, including oral, intravenous, and inhalation, allowing for a tailored approach to treatment based on individual patient needs.
