Romiplostim

Romiplostim, marketed under the brand name Nplate, is a recombinant human thrombopoietin (TPO) protein, used as a prescription medication for adults with chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), an autoimmune condition causing low blood platelet levels.
Romiplostim works by stimulating the production of blood platelets in the bone marrow, leading to an increase in platelet counts in patients with ITP. It is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) every week, and the dosage is adjusted according to the patient’s platelet response.
The medication is not meant for people with conditions other than ITP, such as cancer or blood disorders, as it may worsen their condition. Romiplostim may also cause side effects, including thrombotic and thromboembolic complications, such as blood clots in veins and arteries, and therefore, it should be used cautiously in patients with a history of these events.
