Sargramostim

Sargramostim is a recombinant granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), a naturally occurring glycoprotein. It is used to stimulate the production of white blood cells, specifically neutrophils, in patients undergoing chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation.
The medication works by signaling the bone marrow to produce more white blood cells, helping the patient maintain an effective immune system and reduce the risk of infections during cancer treatment or bone marrow transplantation. Sargramostim is typically administered as a subcutaneous injection and is commonly used for patients with certain types of cancer, such as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and leukemia, who are at high risk of experiencing neutropenia or a low neutrophil count.
