Cipalis-D Eye Drop

Introduction

Cipalis-D is a prescription medication that combines two active ingredients: Ciprofloxacin and Dexamethasone. It is available under the brand name Cipalis-D. This eye drop is primarily used to treat eye infections and reduce inflammation in the eyes.

Uses

Cipalis-D is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial eye infections, including conjunctivitis (pink eye), corneal ulcers, and other ocular infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It also helps to reduce inflammation in the eyes, which can occur as a result of these infections.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage and administration of Cipalis-D should be determined by your healthcare provider. Generally, the recommended dosage is one to two drops in the affected eye(s) every four to six hours. Follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider and not exceed the prescribed dosage.

To administer the eye drop:

Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the medication.

Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.

Hold the dropper close to your eye without touching it.

Squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pocket formed by the lower eyelid.

Close your eyes gently and keep them closed for a minute or two to allow the medication to spread evenly.

Mechanism of Action

Ciprofloxacin, one of the active ingredients in Cipalis-D, belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria that cause infections in the eyes. Dexamethasone, on the other hand, is a corticosteroid that helps to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune response in the eyes.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include temporary burning or stinging sensation, blurred vision, and redness of the eyes. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own.
