Introduction

Nikmox BR is a prescription medication that combines two active ingredients, Bromfenac and Moxifloxacin. Bromfenac and Moxifloxacin are both nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that work by reducing inflammation and preventing bacterial growth. This combination medication is primarily used to treat postoperative inflammation and prevent infection in the eyes following cataract surgery.

Uses

Nikmox BR is prescribed to reduce inflammation and prevent infection in the eyes after cataract surgery. It helps alleviate discomfort, redness, and swelling that may occur following the procedure. By targeting inflammation and inhibiting bacterial growth, Nikmox BR promotes healing and protects against potential complications.

Dosage and Administration

follow your healthcare professional’s instructions regarding the dosage and administration of Nikmox BR. Typically, one drop is instilled into the affected eye(s) four times daily for the first two weeks after cataract surgery. After the initial two weeks, the dosage may be reduced to one drop three times daily for an additional week. Wash your hands before using the eye drops and to avoid touching the tip of the dropper to prevent contamination.

Mechanism of Action

Nikmox BR combines Bromfenac and Moxifloxacin to provide a dual-action treatment for postoperative inflammation and infection prevention. Bromfenac belongs to a class of drugs called NSAIDs, which work by inhibiting the production of certain chemicals in the body that cause inflammation. Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic that works by preventing the growth and replication of bacteria. Together, these two ingredients help reduce inflammation and protect against potential bacterial infections.

Side Effects

Common side effects may include temporary stinging or burning sensation in the eyes, temporary blurred vision, and dryness. These side effects are usually mild and resolve on their own. However, if you experience any persistent or severe side effects, such as severe eye pain, vision changes, or signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, itching, swelling), seek medical attention immediately.

Drug Interactions

inform your healthcare professional about all the medications you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as any herbal supplements. Certain medications may interact with Nikmox BR, potentially affecting its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Be sure to discuss any potential drug interactions with your healthcare provider.

Precautions

Before using Nikmox BR, inform your healthcare professional if you have any allergies to Bromfenac, Moxifloxacin, or any other medications. Mention if you have a history of certain eye conditions, such as glaucoma or dry eye syndrome. Nikmox BR should be used with caution in patients with a history of allergic reactions to NSAIDs. Additionally, avoid wearing contact lenses while using Nikmox BR, as it may contain preservatives that can be absorbed by the lenses.

Storage

Nikmox BR should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Be sure to keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze the medication. If you have any expired or unused eye drops, dispose of them properly according to local regulations.

Patient Tips

  • Wash your hands before using Nikmox BR to prevent contamination.
  • Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket for the eye drop.
  • Squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pocket without touching the tip of the dropper to your eye or any other surface.
  • Close your eyes gently for a minute or two after instilling the eye drops to allow the medication to spread evenly.
  • If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between each medication to prevent interactions.
  • If you experience any persistent or worsening symptoms or have any concerns while using Nikmox BR, contact your healthcare professional for further guidance.
