Amlodipine

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker medication, commonly used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and angina (chest pain). It functions by relaxing the blood vessels and enhancing blood flow, which subsequently decreases the heart’s workload, reducing the severity and frequency of angina episodes.
By selectively blocking the influx of calcium into smooth muscle cells lining the blood vessels, amlodipine induces vasodilation and reduces peripheral resistance, ultimately leading to a decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. This medication is particularly helpful for patients experiencing hypertension in combination with angina, as the reduced blood pressure can alleviate chest discomfort.
