Dorzolamide

Dorzolamide is an ophthalmic solution prescribed for the treatment of certain eye conditions, such as ocular hypertension (elevated intraocular pressure), open-angle glaucoma, and other glaucoma-like disorders. Dorzolamide, also known as trypan blue, works by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase enzyme, an important element in the production of aqueous humor – the fluid that fills and nourishes the front portion of the eye. By reducing the aqueous humor formation, Dorzolamide decreases intraocular pressure and prevents further damage to the optic nerve. Dorzolamide can be used either alone or in combination with other medications like timolol, a beta-blocker. However, it is important to use the medication only as directed by the physician to prevent potential side effects. While the treatment is generally safe and well-tolerated, possible side effects may include irritation of the eye, dry eyes, bitter or strange taste, red eyes, and blurred vision immediately after using the medication. Consultation with the healthcare professional is essential in cases where the side effects are bothersome or persistent. Dorzolamide should not be taken if an allergy to sulfa drugs is present.
