Cefotaxime, Sulbactam
Cefotaxime-Sulbactam is a combination antibiotic medication, which consists of Cefotaxime and Sulbactam. Cefotaxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, while Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This combination is effective against a wide range of bacterial infections, including those caused by penicillin-resistant strains.
Cefotaxime-Sulbactam is used to treat severe infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as pneumonia, meningitis, and infections of the urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of the bacteria. The addition of Sulbactam to Cefotaxime helps to overcome the resistance of some bacteria to Cefotaxime alone.
Before using Cefotaxime-Sulbactam, inform your healthcare provider about any allergies, medical conditions, or medications you are currently taking. This medication should be administered under the supervision of a healthcare professional, as it is available only by prescription.
Cefotaxime-Sulbactam may cause side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or mild skin rash. However, these side effects are usually mild and temporary. In case of severe or persistent side effects, consult your healthcare provider.
