Daclatasvir

Daclatasvir is an antiviral medication used for the treatment of hepatitis C, a viral infection that affects the liver. It belongs to a class of drugs called NS5A inhibitors, which work by targeting a specific protein in the hepatitis C virus (HCV) life cycle, ultimately inhibiting its replication and clearance of the virus from the body.
Daclatasvir is commonly used in combination with other hepatitis C medications, such as sofosbuvir, to enhance its efficacy and increase treatment success rates. The specific combination used depends on the type of hepatitis C infection the patient has, as there are six major genotypes of the virus, each requiring tailored treatment.
Daclatasvir has shown effectiveness in treating genotype 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 infections, providing a comprehensive treatment option for the majority of hepatitis C patients. It is usually administered once daily for a period of 12 weeks, although treatment duration may vary depending on factors such as the patient’s liver function and the presence of cirrhosis.
Daclatasvir is well-tolerated by most patients, with a low incidence of side effects reported. Common side effects may include fatigue, headache, and nausea. Rare, but serious, side effects such as drug-induced immune system reaction (Drugs Rash) or anemia may occur in some patients; however, these are not common occurrences.
