Haloperidol
Haloperidol is an atypical antipsychotic medication commonly used for the treatment of psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia. It works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, which helps alleviate symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, and disordered thinking. Haloperidol may also be prescribed for short-term treatment of agitation, aggression, and severe behavioral disturbances in patients with dementia or intellectual disabilities. In some cases, it may be used off-label to manage restlessness, nausea, and vomiting caused by certain medical conditions or treatments. As with any medication, the use of haloperidol should be closely monitored by a healthcare professional to ensure safety and efficacy.
