Denosumab

Denosumab is a monoclonal antibody medication used for the treatment of certain bone diseases. It is a biologic agent that targets and neutralizes the activity of a protein called RANKL, which is responsible for the breakdown of bone. By inhibiting RANKL, denosumab increases bone density and reduces the risk of fractures in patients with osteoporosis.
Denosumab is also used to prevent and treat bone complications in patients with certain types of cancer, such as multiple myeloma and solid tumors. In these cases, the medication can help reduce the risk of bone damage, fractures, and complications related to cancer therapy.
Denosumab is administered through a subcutaneous injection, usually given once every six months. The medication may cause side effects, such as pain at the injection site, muscle pain, or flu-like symptoms. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting denosumab treatment to ensure that it is the appropriate option for the individual’s specific condition.
